Author's Note

Hopelessly, I'm taking a mental picture of you now, 'cause hopelessly the hope is that we have so much to feel good about.

Since I've been back in Plymouth ...

It has been 18 days now and they have potentially been some of the best of my life.

Also am potentially becoming an alcoholic after going out 3 times in 5 days, and for the 4th time tonight. JSV will be the death of me I swear.

I have ...
... got a job
... quit my job after 3 shifts
... got myself locked out of my room
... left the rat cage open
... got so drunk I was sick
... worn my onesie too much for a normal person
... lost weight
... gone kneak at the wees
... invented a fantastic dance which will soon be seen all over Plymouth
... heard Sarah Garry say some fantastic things:
  • Oh my God, she's putting it in her mouth, I can't watch!
  • I can't suck, it swallows my lip
  • Vagina
  • Am I the noodle drainer?
And it's not even Fresher's week yet :D

Off to get pissed. Now where's my Carling?

I got the moves like Jagger

This is my official theme song of third year!

Currently (well I was before sitting down to blog) prancing around the room to this song, holding my trousers up because I've actually lost weight so now they fall down.

YAY

Life is sweet, isn't it? :D:D:D:D:D:D:D

I've gone all kneak at the wees!

So much to say ... so little that I can actually type and so much that I really should keep to myself ... and whoever caught us on CCTV.

JOKING!

Or am I?

Who knows?!

I'm potentially still drunk!

HAHAHAHA!

"I don't know what's happening!" as I insisted on drunkenly slurring to most people last night.

And also, to quote the amazing Katy Perry - "Pictures of last night ended up online - I'm screwed ... Oh well! It's a blacked out blur but I'm pretty sure it ruled! DAMN"

In case you hadn't guessed I had a bloody spectacular night out last. I think. Like I say, bit of a blur if I'm honest.

And we shall say no more about it.

*giggle*

So I hate my job.

With a passion. Piece of advice for anyone - never work at Dominoes, certainly not as a driver. It's bullshit. Not sure how long I'm gonna last. Got 3 shifts in a row starting from tomorrow at 5pm - they don't give a finishing time though so Hell knows when I'll be free but I do know I will be drinking afterwards. Not sure how I can say that now after last night and having only just recovered from a fairly hideous hangover but never mind!

Seriously though, considering quitting already - I'm on minimum wage and they only pay me £1 towards petrol per delivery I make, regardless of distance which means I will make a loss which means the petrol money coming out of my wages meaning I will be being paid about £3/hour which is bollocks because the job is shit enough anyway. I will try and stick it out for a little bit longer but not convinced I'll be there for much more than a week right now.

And I reckon that's about it for now - back to the gym tomorrow once I've regained some sleepy time, then to work ... then to JSV. Might be interesting ....

The Red Queen hypothesis

"It takes all the running you can do, to keep in the same place."

Wise words by the Red Queen there, I love this - it can be applied to so much in life. I realise it's supposed to apply to evolution: that all species need to continue adapting in order to maintain themselves in the World and the 'Circle of Life', but today I found an alternative meaning.

If you keep running at the same speed you maintain your fitness at that level - if you wanna improve you gotta run even faster than you believe possible.

Basically, going beyond your expectations of yourself and your abilities is the only way you can improve.

How depressing. Or inspiring. One of the two.

This is all good and well but when put into practice, for example on a treadmill at the gym, you may try and run faster and longer than you believe possible but when you get painful chest pains after only a few minutes, it's probably advisable to give up and just stick to what you're good at i.e. slobbing around playing Sims Social and eating crisps.

Obviously that was an entirely hypothetical scenario and not based on my own experiences at the gym.

*ahem*

So I haven't blogged for a while, not sure where to start. I suppose not a huge amount has happened, not blogworthy anyway ... and yet I continue typing. Anyway, since last blog I've returned to the wonderful city of Plymouth, new flat, new room, new flatmates ... I say new, I've known them for 2 years but only ever as coursemates. Although no idea why we didn't do this sooner, move in together that is, as we are a pretty epic trio :D
Some of our adventures in a nutshell since we've been back include:
  • road trip to Brixham for fish and chips
  • road trip back from Brixham along the 'Road of Death'
  • couple of awesome nights out with Odd Sex and cranes and cheap alcopops
  • rats tipping over every drink on 'Cuff's floor
  • daily film sessions
  • development of bizarre crushes
  • realising that you need to boil a shit load of potatoes if you're cooking mash for 3 people.
  • debating various cooking methods - "Do we have to defrost the sausages?"
  • eating way too much food from Jakes
  • panicking because we all have about 50p left to last until our loans come in
All in all a standard week back at university. Now just 8 more days to kill before Freshers Week starts. I saw some Freshers moving into halls this morning ... bizarre to think that I'm kinda "the oldest", you know like a Year 11 is to a Year 7. I mean it was only two years ago that that was me, I don't feel experienced enough to be a third year.

This is THE year though, my chance to make something of my life. I have a very good feeling about it and have therefore compiled a list of things to do, things I'd like to achieve - some are fairly crucial, some optional and some just ridiculously unlikely but here goes:

My Ambitions 2011/2012
  1. Graduate from University
  2. Graduate with a 2:1 *fingers crossed*
  3. Get two fish called Alan (Rickman) and Colin (Firth)
  4. Get a job DONE :D
  5. Get fit and actually lose weight - target under <10stone
  6. Run a race - Plymouth half-marathon a bit ambitious?
  7. Have a bloody awesome 21st birthday party
  8. Save some of my wages and not spend them all on pizza
  9. Go to Africa and hug lions for a month next June
  10. Be an awesome Chair for MTG
  11.
OMG, so whilst writing this blog I got a phone call from Dominos offering me a job as a pizza delivery girl :P Not the most glamourous job ever but it's a job and that'll do for me :D So I've already completed one of my ambitions for the year and I've only been back 10 days!

According to the Red Queen I'd better get running fast if I stand any chance of keeping up with myself this year!

Anyway, hungry now. Dinner and film sesh #6 with Boobies :)

    Pottermore Review ***SPOILERS***

Little "Author's Note" here : if you are awaiting your Pottermore email and don't want the surprise to be ruined don't read this.

On the other hand - if you're unsure as to what Pottermore is and think it's just the books online then read this and see that it is so so much more than that and that it is definitely worth getting.

    Pottermore email
So yesterday I got the best email EVER.  Slight exaggeration you say? Not at all. I was one of the lucky 1million to complete the Magical Quill challenge from 31st July-6th August and gain early access to Beta test the Pottermore site before it goes out to everyone in October and I am SO glad I did.

It is just incredible. Basically it takes you step by step through every chapter of every book (although currently only the first book is available). In each chapter there are 2/3 scenes which hold information that you can find, items you can collect and general things that you can zoom in and out of and interact with. It's only early days at the moment so unfortunately there's no sound but basically everyone on there is commenting saying there needs to be sounds effects. However being the cool person that I am I just played the various Harry Potter soundtracks I have on itunes :P

    Diagon Alley
So you work your way through - Harry's arrival at Privet Drive, the letters from Hogwarts, Hagrid taking him to Diagon Alley. This has to be one of the best bits. You open up your own Gringotts Bank Account and then you're given the shopping list that all Hogwarts students get so you can go around Diagon Alley and buy all yourself a cauldron, potion ingredients, school books, and a pet. You can choose between an owl, a cat or a toad so I got myself a lovely barn owl. Unfortunately you can't name your pet which is a bit pants but reading through the comments nearly everyone has suggested that you should be able to.

Anyway, last but not least, you get a wand :) Good old Mr Ollivander is there and he explains that you will be asked a few questions about yourself so that you get a wand that suits you. Here's mine:
    Love it <3
It's explained that the various woods, lengths and magical core's of a wand are dependent on personality type and actually, having read through the descriptions, my wand is very accurate to the sort of person I am so congrats Pottermore on that :)
Anyway then you continue on to board the Hogwarts Express and go to Hogwarts where you're greeted by Professor McGonnagall and taken through to the Sorting Ceremony - exciiiting! :D

Like the wand selection process there are more questions posed to you that help determine which house you will be put it. Look where I ended up:

Yeh I know. I was disappointed to begin with - you don't hear too much about Hufflepuff's in the book and the name sounds a but ... poofy but having read the description of Hufflepuff students I would have to agree that is suits me right and I'm quite enjoying befriending fellow Hufflepuffers (maybe not the best choice of collective term) and hey, Cedric Diggory was a Hufflepuff so we're not all useless :P

Anyway, after this is gets a little less exciting but you still get to interact with the story, take a Potions class, use spells (this took me ages as the instructions are appalling) and eventually you go through the challenges to reach the Philosophers Stone and voila :)

Then that's it for now, until Chamber of Secrets becomes available. But there's plenty to do - practice spells, send gifts to fellow 'students', duel other wizards (this is down for maintenance atm which is upsetting as I'd love to have a go at that) and brew potions for housepoints:
Brewing myself a Cure for Boils potion :)
The graphics for the site are absolutely brilliant - proper book illustration style. What they have so far really is fantastic, especially as it's only really a 'practice run'. There's loads more they can add to improve it and it's great to see that the other 124,577 HP fanatics that have so far been allowed access have plenty of ideas too :D

So hope that helps you lot that are sat on the fence about it. Although if I have tempted you I'm afraid you'll now have to wait until October until you can register.

For you friends who have registered early and are awaiting your email - hope to see you in Hufflepuff house soon :)

    Colin Firth interview

My Mum saw this on TV the other day and being awesome thought to record it for me. The interviewer guy (James Lipton) is absolutely awful and if he wasn't 84 I would be tempted to punch him ... actually I still am. But Colin Firth, being Colin was hilarious.
It contains some of the best interview answers I've ever heard. Par example:

James Lipton: If heaven exists, what would you like to hear God say when you arrive at the pearly gates?
Colin Firth: "I personally thought you were very good in Mamma Mia"

James Lipton: What turns you on?
    Colin: Crème brûlée
James Lipton: What turns you off?
    Colin: Tripe

The whole this is on Youtube so if you love this man (who doesn't?) then I would recommend watching it. Click -> Inside the Actors Studio Colin Firth

    30% less art

Two quick things I would like to blog about very briefly and then I shall leave you good people to enjoy your evenings.

    Thing 1 - 30% Less
Have you noticed that all this low fat food that is on sale and is more expensive than normal food because it's supposedly made out of healthier, higher quality ingredients is actually just smaller versions of the full fat versions. WeightWatchers lasagne's and curries for example, I can either have one and feel hugely disappointed at the end of the meal or have two of them which completely defies the point. I had a sausage roll today from Asda's healthy range which was apparently 30% less fat. It wasn't, it was just 30% less sausage roll.

    Thing 2 - Art
I had an urge last night. An art related urge to try and draw Lupin. I always do this. I get the urge and I do the body and shapes and whatever fairly well. Then I get to the face and I remember that I can't draw faces. Then I sit and cry. Observe.
    What I am aiming for
    What I so far have
If I feel brave and if I ever manage to draw the face I will post the finished version. Don't get your hopes up though.
