Author's Note

Hopelessly, I'm taking a mental picture of you now, 'cause hopelessly the hope is that we have so much to feel good about.

The Red Queen hypothesis

"It takes all the running you can do, to keep in the same place."

Wise words by the Red Queen there, I love this - it can be applied to so much in life. I realise it's supposed to apply to evolution: that all species need to continue adapting in order to maintain themselves in the World and the 'Circle of Life', but today I found an alternative meaning.

If you keep running at the same speed you maintain your fitness at that level - if you wanna improve you gotta run even faster than you believe possible

Basically, going beyond your expectations of yourself and your abilities is the only way you can improve.

How depressing. Or inspiring. One of the two.

This is all good and well but when put into practice, for example on a treadmill at the gym, you may try and run faster and longer than you believe possible but when you get painful chest pains after only a few minutes, it's probably advisable to give up and just stick to what you're good at i.e. slobbing around playing Sims Social and eating crisps.

Obviously that was an entirely hypothetical scenario and not based on my own experiences at the gym.

*ahem*

So I haven't blogged for a while, not sure where to start. I suppose not a huge amount has happened, not blogworthy anyway ... and yet I continue typing. Anyway, since last blog I've returned to the wonderful city of Plymouth, new flat, new room, new flatmates ... I say new, I've known them for 2 years but only ever as coursemates. Although no idea why we didn't do this sooner, move in together that is, as we are a pretty epic trio :D
Some of our adventures in a nutshell since we've been back include:
  • road trip to Brixham for fish and chips
  • road trip back from Brixham along the 'Road of Death'
  • couple of awesome nights out with Odd Sex and cranes and cheap alcopops
  • rats tipping over every drink on 'Cuff's floor
  • daily film sessions
  • development of bizarre crushes
  • realising that you need to boil a shit load of potatoes if you're cooking mash for 3 people.
  • debating various cooking methods - "Do we have to defrost the sausages?"
  • eating way too much food from Jakes
  • panicking because we all have about 50p left to last until our loans come in
All in all a standard week back at university. Now just 8 more days to kill before Freshers Week starts. I saw some Freshers moving into halls this morning ... bizarre to think that I'm kinda "the oldest", you know like a Year 11 is to a Year 7. I mean it was only two years ago that that was me, I don't feel experienced enough to be a third year.

This is THE year though, my chance to make something of my life. I have a very good feeling about it and have therefore compiled a list of things to do, things I'd like to achieve - some are fairly crucial, some optional and some just ridiculously unlikely but here goes:

My Ambitions 2011/2012
  1. Graduate from University
  2. Graduate with a 2:1 *fingers crossed*
  3. Get two fish called Alan (Rickman) and Colin (Firth)
  4. Get a job DONE :D
  5. Get fit and actually lose weight - target under <10stone
  6. Run a race - Plymouth half-marathon a bit ambitious?
  7. Have a bloody awesome 21st birthday party
  8. Save some of my wages and not spend them all on pizza
  9. Go to Africa and hug lions for a month next June
  10. Be an awesome Chair for MTG
  11.
OMG, so whilst writing this blog I got a phone call from Dominos offering me a job as a pizza delivery girl :P Not the most glamourous job ever but it's a job and that'll do for me :D So I've already completed one of my ambitions for the year and I've only been back 10 days!

According to the Red Queen I'd better get running fast if I stand any chance of keeping up with myself this year!

Anyway, hungry now. Dinner and film sesh #6 with Boobies :)
    Laters
    Cock
